Hey Friends -

Welcome to the Artist Development Newsletter.

Every Sunday, I send an email providing actionable tips for artists and industry on one area of the music business.

Last week we talked about 1 simple trick for capturing better content.

You can re-read last week’s newsletter here if you want to refresh.

Today we will discuss the 5 time management strategies for artists to stay organized and focused.

Let’s go!

Being an artist involves wearing lots of different hats.

Some days you are a songwriter; other days, you are a performer, designer, videographer, editor, social media manager, and the list goes on.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, and it’s hard to stay organized.

Below are 5 methods for organizing all your to-do’s as an artist to create momentum for your career.

See which one feels like it can be most helpful to you, and give it a try to jumpstart your week.

1. Eisenhower Matrix:

  • Make a list of all the tasks you need to complete.
  • Prioritize the tasks based on their urgency and importance.
  • Divide the tasks into four categories: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, neither urgent nor important.
  • Focus on completing the tasks in the urgent and important categories first.
  • Delegate or eliminate the tasks that are neither urgent nor important categories.

2. Eat That Frog

  • Identify the task that you’ve been procrastinating on the most.
  • Break the task down into smaller, more manageable steps.
  • Set a deadline for each step and commit to completing one step at a time.
  • Focus on completing the most important and challenging task first thing in the morning.
  • Celebrate your progress and accomplishments along the way.

3. Time Blocking:

  • Set aside blocks of time for specific tasks or activities.
  • Use a calendar or planner to schedule your time blocks.
  • Prioritize the most important tasks and schedule them during your peak productivity hours.
  • Avoid multitasking and distractions during your time blocks.
  • Evaluate and adjust your time blocks based on your progress and results.

4. Rapid Planning Method:

  • Define your objectives and outcomes for the day, week, month, and year.
  • Break down your goals into specific and measurable results.
  • Identify the actions and habits that will help you achieve your results.
  • Schedule your actions and habits into your calendar or planner.
  • Review and reflect on your progress regularly and make adjustments as needed.

5. The Flowtime Technique:

  • Identify your most productive and creative times of the day.
  • Schedule your most important and challenging tasks during your flow time.
  • Eliminate or delegate tasks that can be done during non-flowtime hours.
  • Minimize distractions and interruptions during your flowtime.
  • Take breaks and recharge your energy levels during non-flowtime hours.

I hope this helps you to stay organized and focused as you navigate your career as an artist in the music business.

See you next Sunday!
