Hey Friends -

Welcome to the Artist Development Newsletter.

Every Sunday, I send an email providing actionable tips for artists and industry on one area of the music business.

Last week we talked about how to find the perfect album title.

You can re-read last week’s newsletter here if you want to refresh.

Today I want to give you a template to help you stay organized while making your album.

Let’s jump in.

Making an album is an exhilarating experience.

It can also be challenging.

No two albums are made the exact same way.

The writing process changes.

The recording process changes.

Engineers, producers, and players all might be different from one song or album to the next.

Even if you keep your process and personnel the same, there is a lot to keep track of.

Recording, at its best, is a creative experience you get lost in, but sometimes you get so far down the rabbit hole that you don’t know where you are.

That’s where the Digital White Board comes in.

Keeping a log of your progress makes making an album A LOT less daunting.

It keeps you honest about your progress and works as an accountability partner for everyone to ensure they do their part to deliver a finished album.

You can download my template here.

Click the link, go to the File tab, and select “save a copy.”

It’s simple to use:

  • Song Title — Type your song titles
  • Status — Select “tracking,” “overdubs,” or “complete”
  • Tracks Bounced — Select “No” or “Yes”
  • Tracks To Mixer — Select “No” or “Yes”
  • Mixed — Select “No,” “In Progress,” or “Yes”
  • Mastered- Select “No” or “Yes”
  • On Album — Select “Yes,” “Maybe,” or “No”

You may not be able to finish your album in a day, but you can make progress.

Using the Digital White Board is a great tool to help.

See you next Sunday!
